New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department collection of unclaimed bailees, 1840-1952.

Summary: Collection consists of a broad range of materials originally deposited in safety deposit boxes at various New Mexico banks. After being declared "abandoned," the materials were sent to the Department of Taxation and Revenue, who donated them to the Fray Angelico Chavez History Library. Collection includes legal documents, court records, estate records, deeds, land conveyances, mining claims, letters, and newspaper clippings. Most of the deeds and land conveyances involve the Canon de San Diego, Canon de San Diego de Jemez, and Ojo de Espirito Santo land grants. There are also several documents involving property and buildings in Santa Fe such as the Capital Hotel and Exchange Hotel. Some of the individuals represented in the collection's content include Roman A. Baca, Amado Chaves, John W. Thomas, Charles H. Gildersleeve, and Jacob V. Shade.
